DRINKING AT DANCE HALLS

PREVALENCE IN HAWERA LICENSING OF HALLS SUGGESTED The statement that drinking outside dance halls was becoming, more prevalent in Taranaki was made by Sergeant Henry in the Hawera Court yesterday. Sergeant Henry suggested the licensing of halls. “There have been quite a number of complaints of drinking at dance halls in the Hawera district,” stated the sergeant. “Several parents have complained. In the very near future something will have to be doue to license halls, so that some control may be exercised over people who attend dances. “Most of the drinking is done outside the halls. This offence is most prevalent in Taranaki. Free buses are run to country dances, and the consequence is that all classes go to them. The state of things is getting bad.”
