PUNGAREHU NOTES
(From pur Own Correspondent). During the season tho Pungarehu Tennis Club has played matches as follows: Defeated by Kaponga, defeated-by Otakeho, defeated by Opunake. These were shield matches and the players were glad of the opportunity of having games against other players. During &st -week-end a friendly match was played again Warea, in which Pungarahu emerged victors by a small margin. On Thursday night tho school committeo held a meeting to finalise accounts, etc., from the recent concert. Over £4O was taken in door receipts, and as expenses were small a good margin of profit was shown. Particular mention was made of the excellent response of parents and friends in providing sapper for over 400 people, and >of t<h» thanks due to all those who waited on table and generally , assisted in the smooth running of affairs. The school staff and senior pupils attended to practically all other arrangements, leaving a minimum of work for other helpers. Following test year’s procedure, when certain stage fittings were presented to the hall, the committee this year decided to donate £5 towards hall funds. It has been suggested that the play be staged again in the New Year for the benefit of the hall, and the committee expressed its willingness to assist wherever possible. The committee expressed its satisfaction at the fact that all pupils, eleven in number, presented for proficiency gained their certificates. Of this number five were Maori girls.
