STOLEN RACEHORSE

THE MYSTERY OF SIMBA STABLES IN SYDNEY SUBURB. (N.Z. Herald Correspondent.) Sydney, Dec. 3. Simba re-entered the news to-day with a stir, caused by the report to the police that he had been stolen sometime during the week-end. The most interesting part of the development is the disclosure that Simba was in a stable in a Sydney suburb not two miles from Randwick. Since his owner, Mr. G. Guest, informed the Australian Jockey Club that Simba had been gelded and turned out, interest had waned, but something was expected to happen when a move was made to register him. The stables from which Simba is alleged to have been stolen are owned by Mr. Frank Johnston, better known in trotting circles in New Zealand. At these stables formerly were housed Stately and Puff, both exNew Zealanders. Mr. G'. Guest, the owner of Simba, today stated that he is at a loss as to the motive for the theft of the horse. The police, too, are at a dead-end. Mr. Guest’ said the horse had recovered from the operation and had been, blistered recently, prior to being placed in work again. He produced a statutory declaration signed by J. T. Jamieson on November 5 that the New Zealand trainer had inspected Simba at the stables and the horse was identical with the one shipped on the Ulimaroa by his agents last May. Mr. Poltie, veterinary surgeon, also has made a statement, in possession of Mr. Guest, that he had had Simba under his care and had gelded him. The officials of the Australian Jockey Club are still reticent about the matter and decline to make any statement.
