Colonel G. R. C. Campbell, Controller and Auditor-General, is visiting New Plymouth. < Mr. F. J. White, New Plymouth, who has been for an extended tour abroad, returned by the Uuimaroa to Auckland. The Rev. Father Carmine, who has been spending ( a few days with his •brother, Mr. L. Carmine, Waitara, also in New Plymouth, left yesterday morning on his return to Takaka. Mr. A. R. Ryder, headmaster of Rotorua High School, has been appointed principal of the Whangarei High School. There were 59 applications, including several from Australia. Mr. Ryder was for a considerable period on the staff of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stevens, of Palmerston North, upon having reached the golden anniversary of their wedding were expressed at Tuesday’s meeting of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Lunch Club by Mr.. G. G. Hancox, on behalf of the members. Mr. Stevens, he said, had been secretary of the club for many years and the members were expressing the hope that the ihulppy couple would continue to be (spared for a number of yeans. _ Mr. Stevens is well known in Taranaki. ■Mr. A. Warren, of the New Plymouth railway staff, who after 23 years’ service has been retired owing to the department’s retrenchment policy, was met by members of the staff yesterday afternoon and presented with a well-filled wallet. The stationmaster, Mr. W. J. Greig, in making the presentation expressed regret at the departure of such a popular and efficient officer. Mr. Warren had spent ’BJ years in the Westinghouse brake department at Petone, being transferred to New Plymouth as train examiner 12 years ago, a position which he has held ever since. Mr. Warren, who is of an inventive mind, has patented a skirt board for tables, an ingenious device that has become popular.
