AIR SERVICE TO AUSTRALIA

IMPERIAL AIRWAYS HAS SCHEME. — WEEKLY TRIPS CONTEMPLATED. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Oct. 15. Sir Eric Geddes, chairman of Imperial Airways, announced at- the annual meeting to-day that in consultation and co-opera-tion with the Air Minister a scheme had been planned by Imperial Airways to provide a weekly air service to Australia, covering the distance in- about ten days. It was hoped to put the scheme into operation when the national financial position has eased. Sir Eric Geddes said the service from England to Central Africa would soon be extended to Capetown, when the company’s regular route mileage would be 12,000 miles compared with 2000 miles three ■years ago.
