TAMMANY LEADERS’ BRIBES
NEW YORK CITY SENSATION. DISCLOSURES BY COMMITTEE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec.| 1.30 p.m. New York, Oct. 15 A sensation was created to-day by the announcement that the special State Legislative committee which is investigating city affairs and which unearthed much bribe-taking by Tammany leaders, finally traced bank and broker-, age accounts totalling a million dollar# to Russell Sherwood, financial agent and accountant for the Mayor, Mr. Walker. All the efforts of the committee’s counsel to find Sherwood, who disappeared two months ago, have failed, and counsel has charged Walker with keeping Sherwood out of the State in order to prevent him being questioned. The Mayor when asked to comment said, “I have nothing to say.”
