TOP PRICE OF 72 GUINEAS. AWARDS TO MANAWATU ENTRIES. Hamilton, Sept. 17. The ninth annual show and sale of pedigree Jersey bulls conducted by Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, was held at the Claudelands Show Ground yesterday and to-day. The catalogue entry of 297 head comprised 111 stud 'bulls aged two years and over and 186 stud yearlings. Breeders from nearly all dairying districts in the North Island were represented. There was a good attendance of buyers and, although the prices realised on the first day were slightly below expectations, the competition to-day was more lively and values for the better quality animals showed some improvement. The top price of the sale was 72 guineas, paid by Air. H. Hopkins, of Hinuera, for Messrs. A. Moreland and Sons’ yearling bull Beechlands Eminent Scot (Fairy’s Eminent Raleigh—Beechlands Scotch Lassie). Two other bulls, Mr. J. A. Mitchell’s Santa Rosa Carillon and. Mr. R. S. Tuck’s Oxford Sunshot, each realised 60 guineas. Of the 111 bulls aged two years and over offered yesterday, 59 were sold, at an average of 23 guineas, representing a total of about £1359. For the 70 of today’s catalogue of 186 yearlings which changed hands, an average of 22 guineafl was realised, making the total proceeds of the sale approximately £2OOO. THE LIST OF PRIZES. The grand championship of the show was awarded to the Manawatu bull, Air. J. A. Mitchell’s Santa Rosa Carillon, and the reserve championship to another Manawatu entry, Mr. C. G. C.
