ONLY THREE FIRE CALLS

NO SERIOUS CASE AT HAWERA. QUARTERLY REVIEW OF WORK. Only three calls in the last quarter were reported to the Hawera Fire Board 'by the superintendent, Mr. A. Morrison, yesterday. Hurley (two years’ gold bar, completing 29 years’ service), Fireman H. Pettett (two years’ silver bar, completing 11 years’ service), and Fireman L. Milroy (three years’ framed certificate). Both the street alarm and the direct alarm from the Old People’s Home were in good order. Recently it was necessary to replace. the wiring of the alarm in the building of the Old People’s Home, owing to the alarm being unreliable, due to the perished condition of the wire. Both the motors were in good, repairGENERAL ITEMS. ■ “Hawera gives the underwriters less concern than any other part of Taranaki,” said Mr. G. Duncan at a meeting of the Hawera Fire Board yesterday. WRESTLING AT HAWERA, PENCHEFF AND BURESH MATCHED Sixteen rounds of hard wrestling and never a fall; that is the record of the two matches between George Pencheff and Stanley Buresh. Their third encounter at Hawera next Wednesday can scarcely be another draw. Pencheff is now well known in Taranaki, having appeared twice at Stratford, once at Hawera., and once at New Plymouth. The fact that the associations still sign him up is proof of the <vood service he has given them. ° Buresh will be making his first appearance in the province, but he _ comes with a great reputation as a scientific wrestler. At Auckland he gave Wa-lkci what was described as a wrestling lesson until the Canadian’s great strength enabled him to snatch 0, win. Known as “The Gorilla Man,” Buresh has every hold at his command. These two should provide a really good bout., ae both ace keen to end the succession of draws.
