NEW PLYMOUTH NATIVE’S LIFE.
Mrs. Susannah Cole, wife of Constable H. Cole, died at Palmerston North on Saturday in her fifty-sixth year. The late Mrs. Cole was borne at New Plymouth and was a daughter of Mr. Phillip Lowry, who under commission from the Government during the Maori War erected the first blockhouse at New Plymouth. Mrs. Cole’s life was one of activity in church, social and charitable causes. She was associated for some years with the Cuba Street Methodist Church, but latterly with the Campbell Street Church of Christ, where she was secretary of the Sister’s Guild, founder of the Hiawatha Club for girls, and a teacher in the Bible School, During the Hawke’s Bay earthquake refugees’ camp at Palmerston North Mrs. Cole organiseda clothing depot for their benefit. A foundation member of the Lady Carson Orange Lodge instituted in 1920, she was three times elected to the position of worshipful mistress. Three sons and three daughters are left, Messrs. L. W. Cole (Feilding), H. M. Cole- (New Plymouth), P. Cole (Wellington), Mrs. H. L. Williams (Melbourne), Mrs. E. H. Compton (Palmer« ston North), and Miss O. Cole (Palmerston North).
