CORRESPONDENCE

MINTING SILVER COIN.

(To the Editor).

Sir, —Mr. •Bell in making his bow cn the question of silver and copper coinage makes'an observation which shows that he is not in favour of the printers of our pound notes (which cost threepence) receiving face value for them. Why, then, is he in favour of the printers (minters) of our silver and copper coinage receiving from New Zealand face value for tho tokens which we very kindly (and ignorantly) circulate for them? I liavb to thank him for providing an excellent analogy. I am really sorry for Mr, Bell because the action of the British Mint in allowing New Zealand credit for £13,606, representing half the profit on minting oiw coins in one year, proves conclusively that Mr. Wilkinson was right and Mr. Bell was wrong. I wonder if Mr. Bell still, thinks that ilia action of the British Mint will result in inflation? —I am, etc., J. P. McDAVITT. Wanganui, August 21, 1931.
