SHOWING OF “SPORT OF KINGS.”

Leslie Henson, remembered for his performance in “A Warm Corner,” will appear in “Sport of Kings” at the Opera House, Hawera, to-day and to-night. This is lan Hay’s breezy tale of the turf, which starts off with a bet between two racing men, one of whom is determined to prove his theory that no normal human being can do without a little gamble now and then, He installs himself and his friend as paying guests in the country house of Amos Purdie, J.P. (Mr. Henson). The initiation of Purdie, killjoy and crank, into the mysteries of betting, proceeds apace owing to the old man’s cupidity, and soon he is sending code messages to an obliging bookmaker, the while he preserves a puritanical front to his household. The picture moves along at an excellent speed, with the comedy element always to the fore, and embraces not only the pleasant interiors of Purdie’s house, but the racecourse, the roundabouts, the fun. of the fai'rj and the seething excitement of the crowd.
