BOWLEGS IN ASCENDANT

VIVIAN HAS BETTER DAY

GLAMORGAN’S LOW TOTAL

SCORE SOON OVERTAKEN

NICE LEAD FOR DOMINION

Special to Press Association. Rec. 5.5 p.m. London, August 1. Good bowling by Vivian and Allcott at Swansea allowed New Zealand to dismiss Glamorgan for 136 runs. The visitors gained a lead with six wickets in hand. Demptser, James and Page stood out of the New Zealand team.

Lowry lost the toss, and Glamorgan batted on a slow wicket. The weather was fine and warm, and the wicket was never really difficult. The ball turned slowly. In the first quarter of an hour Dyson and jHoward scored only one run. Vivian and Allcott quickly gained the upper hand. At lunch Glamorgan had made 51 for theloss of six wickets. None of the early batsmen inspired confidence. After lunch Turnbull and Clay commenced to attack the bowling. Matheson was brought on and bowled Clay with a beautiful in-swinger. Turnbull, tempted to step out to Vivian, was smartly stumped. The innings occupied 178 minutes. Vivian bowled excellently, kept the ball well up, and tempted the batsmen to make mistakes. He bowled 29 overs. Allcott was as steady as ever, . bowling 26 overs, 14 of which were maidens. Lowry kept wickets admirably, allowing no byes. New Zealand batted for 170 minutes. Merritt and Kerr were dismissed just as they were settling down. Talbot and Weir were out l.b.w. in the same over. Mills and Blunt took no risks, Blunt being extremely cautious at times, but Mills neglected no scoring opportunities. The pair added 97. Clay, a slow right hander, bowling round the wicket, at times spun the ball back sharply. He bowled 21 overs, eight of which were maidens. The attendance was 5000. Scores:— GLAMORGAN. First Innings.
