CANADIAN POWER SCHEME

HOUSE ADOPTS THE REPORT. DEVELOPMENT BY GOVERNMENT. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, Aug. 1. Parliament without a vote adopted the report recommending the Government to develop the Beauharnois power scheme. The Prime Minister, Mr. R. B. Bennett, after denouncing the company for defying Parliament, declared the conclusions in the report justified its referring to the Senators allegedly participating in the deal . Mr. Bennett said members of the House of Commons were not privileged to discuss the Senate or Senators. “We can leave that to the Senate and the country,” he added. He proposed that the Order-in-Council granting the Beauharnois company rights be cancelled and that Parliament'’ handle the water diversion of the St. Lawrence River as it saw fit for the country’s benefit.
