In reply to a question, the Prime Minister made it clear that the new duties embodied in the Customs resolutions apply to- goods already on the water which Were not imported into New Zealand until after July 30. ' -, Mr. Forbes added that if goods were imported at one port in New Zealand on or before July 30, even though intended for subsequent entry at another port, such goods would be liable for the lower rates. Goods in bonded warehouses whiA were cleared after July 30 would pay the new rates.
