WOOL FRAUDS ALLEGEO

CIVIL SUITS IN AMERICA

CLAIMS BY THE GOVERNMENT

CRIMINAL ACTION DROPPED

By Talegraph—Preae Aiea.—Copyright.

Philadelphia, July 30.

The United States District Attorney’s office has revealed that tile Government has started civil suits for a total of 40,000,000 dollars against wool concerns, on the grounds that they have defrauded the Government of that amount.

The local authorities stated that the frauds extended over the past eight years, but the 40,000,000 dollars represents the Government loss in the past five years. The Statute of Limitations prevents the suits covering the entire period of the alleged frauds.

It is revealed that for at time it was planned to take criminal action, but a series of conferences brought a compromise for a civil action instead. The Philadelphia suits will soon be presented before the United States District Court. The total amount involved is between nine and ton million dollars.
