NATIVES’ ASSOCIATION FORMED.

ITS OBJECTS EXPLAINED.

Westport, Last Night. At the first general meeting of the recently-formed Natives’ Association this evening it was stated that the present membership was 300. Members must be born in New Zealand.

The general policy of the association is “New Zealand for New Zealanders,” consistent with the economic development of the country. The association is to use its powers to protect the social and industrial rights and interests of New Zealand-born citizens, is to be non-sectarian, is to maintain independence politically, but may in its discretion become politically active in any direction whatever for the furtherance of its objects. The association asserts its loyalty to the Dominion of New Zealand and its British constitution. It will encourage local industry by purchasing, if possible, New Zealand-made goods, employing New Zealand labour. ° Mr. G. H. Snow, who was elected the first president, stated that the association was likely to become Dominionwide.
