ARARATA WOMEN’S DIVISION.

An enoyable afternoon in aid of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was organised by Mrs. Roberts and held at the residence of Mrs. T. Tarrant. Community singing, musical and elocutionary items and a competition made the afternoon pass pleasantly. Afternoon tea was served by the Ararata members of the division. Songs were sung by Mesdames Moss, Sunderland, Kendall, Carter, Robertson and Foy, and a duct by Mrs. Sunderland and Mrs. Kendall. Mesdames Kendall, Corkill and Robertson were the accompanistes. A pianoforte solo'was played by Miss Manning and Mrs. Tocker gave several enjoyable elocutionary items. Mrs. Carter was the winner of the competition. Mrs. Carter spoke on the work of the division, particularly the book club. WOMEN’S DIVISION WORK. URENUI BRANCH. A particularly interesting meeting of the Urenui branch of the W.D.F.U. was ■held on Monday, the president (Mrs. J. F. Phillips) presiding. Mrs. Phillips gave an outline of the activities of the Dominion conference which she attended. The rest of the afternoon was devoted to a most instructive demonstration of art and craft work by Mrs. F. S. Johns, New Plymouth. Mrs. Johns also gave a brief outline of the activities of the home economics movement, of which she is president. Mrs. W. J. Frecth proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Johns for her most interesting lecture and the instructive craft work, and afternoon tea was served.
