FLOOD DANGER AVERTED
GREAT RELIEF AT NAPIER RIVERS INUNDATE LARGE AREA. FINE DAY SAVES THE SITUATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The cessation of rain yesterday afternoon saved tho district, from serious floods. As it was the river banks let water through at two points, and a large area was inundated. The main road between Napier and Hastings was flooded in two places, but traffic was able io continue with care. Tho road via Pakowhai was also flooded. The waters subsided rapidly during the night and to-day, and the absence of further rain is a great relief. Heavy up-country rain had caused all the rivers to flood. The Ngaruroro broke its banks at Twyford, and the Tutactuki broke at Meance. All the roads out of Ndpier were blocked except the main south road, which was open between tides. No stock losses are reported.
