UPPER MANGOREI NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The fortnightly euchre and dance party was held ,at Upper Mangorei on Friday., Owing to wet weather .there was not such a good attendance as usual. The prizes were won by Mrs. H. Wood 1, Mrs.. Jim Johnston. 2, ,Mr. Darcy Candish 1, Mr. Les. Candish 2. A record attendance helped to make a success of the dance at Mangorei on Wednesday.' In deciding upon this form of entertainment the young men took what might under other circumstances have been deemed unnecessary risks, in their outlay on the supper, and in the engagement of a good orchestra. The enterprise was more than justified by the result and all who attended are looking forward to another evening to be promoted. ’ The spot waltz was won by' Mr- Eric Spencer and Miss Margaret Wood, and the Monte Carlo by Mr. Jack Balsom and Miss Grace Peters. The ladies in charge of the supper were Mesdames Balsom, Flay and Johnston and the Misses Grace Peters, Oma Flay, Margaret Wood, Elvie Rogers and Delis Rogers. Mr. Jack Reid, and Mr. B. Balsom were masters of ceremonies. Martin’s orchestra provided the music. Mr. and Mrs. Hall have left the district and sailed for England on June 29. Mr. and Mrs. Busing have taken up residence at Mangorei. Miss Gladys and Dorothy Pearce have returned from a holiday at Wanganui. Mrs. S. Flay has returned after spending a holiday at Okato with Mrs. H. Sears. Mrs. Cecil Balsom and Miss Jones have started a play-reading circle in the district.
