NEWALL SCHOOL

SUCCESSFUL CHILDREN’S BALL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Tumahu hall,' which has been the scene of many a gay and social evening this season, was again packed to capacity on Friday evening, when the Newall School Committee held a very successful fancy dress ball for the children. The receipts at the door, which were about £lO, are for the school funds. The hall, which had been decorated with blue, red. and white streamers s spended acroSs the ceiling, whilst the walls were covered with fern fronds, presented a gay appearance. Fancy dresses were wonderful and Mrs; A. W. Allardige, who supervised them, is to be congratulated upon the splendid success that was undoubtedly achieved. The children occupied the floor for. uancino' until 10 o’clock, the masters of ceremonies being Masters Thompson, McEldowney and Harold Raven, dressed as an Indian and cowboy respectively. The headmaster, Mr. W. O. W l ™- sett, who organised and supervised the children, kept things moving throughout the evening. The secretary and chairman of the) school committee, Mr. 4 W Allardice, is deserving of speCi&l mention for the smooth running of the function. A special supper provided by the school committee members’ wives, Mesdames A. W.. Allardice, W. Binnie, John McEldowney, Jim McEldowney and Mrs Raven, was handed to the children at 10 o’clock. Others who assisted were Mrs. Hucker, Miss Irene Goodwin and Mrs. T. Harvey. . Opportunity was taken by the chairman during the evening to thank all those who helped, Mr. lyimsett replvino- on behalf of the children. The adults occupied the floor for the remainder of the evening, Mr. W. Raven beino- master of ceremonies. The music for the children and adults was supplied by Miss L. Gilhooly (piano), Les Bosworth (flute), and P. Norris (violin). 4 cruessino l competition -for a ham was won by M°. B. Elwin, tho correct number being 32A.
