BIBLE TEACHING IN SCHOOLS

ARCHBISHOP AVERILL’S SUPPORT.

'PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ROBBING GOD’

By Telegraph.—Pres* Association. Thames, June 15.

Archbishop Averill, preaching at Thames last night op the Bible in schools, stated that in denying children religious instruction people were robbing God. New Zealand professed to be a dehiocratic Christian country, yet in the educational system there was no recognition of God.

Opposition in the past to such instruction had come from Roman Catholics and teachers. The former’s opposition wps now withdrawn and a Bill was coming before the House next session which asked for inclusion in the schools of hours of religious instruction. In a recent plebiscite it was shown that over 80 per cent, of parents were in favour of the Bible in schools.
