MID-DAY MAIL SERVICES
INTERMEDIATE TOWNS’ POSITION.
The adequacy of mail services by the midday train from New Plymouth to Wanganui was discussed at last meeting of the council of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce.
It was thought by some, said the president, Mr. L. M, Moss, that letters posted in time to catch the midday train were not delivered at intermediate towns between New Plymouth and Wanganui and between New Plymouth and Auckland. He had had personal experience in regard to a letter for Patea which had not been delivered the same day though posted to catch the midday mail, and other people were under the impression that while letters for Auckland might go forward those for intermediate towns, such as Hamilton, did not do so until the next day. As there seemed to be some misunderstanding in regard to the scope of the delivery of mails despatched by the midday train it was decided to ask the chief postniaster to report upon the matter.
