Mrs. Stanlake, Otakeho, is returning to the Hawera Public Hospital for further treatment. ® • • • Another of the winter series of bridge evenings arranged, by the bridge committee of the bridge circle of the Women’s Club was held on Thursday. The prize for the hidden number was won by Mrs. Beck. Among those present were Mesdames Jobson, Beck, Douglas, Kinmont, Meyrick, Livingstone, Murdoch and Miss Hunter. Mrs. Job- • son was the hostess. '• « • • i As was the case last year, old pupils of the Hawera High School arc holding social functions during the winter,_ the first of the series being held last night. Music was supplied by the Maori orchestra and arrangements were directed by the secretaries, Miss M. Campbell and Mr. J. Matheson. The function was successful In every way. At the annual meeting of the Park (Hawera) Bowling Club the following officers were elected: —President, Mrs. A. Murdoch; vice-presidents, Mesdames T. C. Hobbs and F. Meredith; eecre- > tary, Mrs. J. AV. Harding; - treasurer, Mrs. J. Exley; executive,. Mesdames A. Hall, F. Chadwick and Collier and Miss R. Tait. The reading of a play, “Old English,” by. Galsworthy, provided an enjoyable evening at the Hawera Women’s Club on Monday. Mrs. Woodward was the director and the readers were Mesdames W. C. Strange, C. Trotter, J. Houston, H. R. Kemp, W. J. Bright, B. C. Bennett and Misses A. Page, M. Burgess, Glenn, Caplen and B. Ryan. Among those present were Mrs. Murray Page, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Evans, Mrs. Duncan, Miss Power, Mrs. Fyson, Miss Carson, Mrs. R. F. Page, Mrs. C. Tanks and Miss Cushla Tonks, Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. W. Tonks (Christchurch), Mrs. F. W. Sutton, Mrs. Bull, Mrs. Burgess, Mrs. Freyberg, Mrs. Dickie and Miss Young.
