UNIVERSITY TEAM WIN

NEW SOUTH WALES MATCH TWENTY-EIGHT POINTS TO TEN TOURISTS’ UNBEATEN RECORP By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 10.20 p.m. Sydney, June 10. The New Zealand University Rugby team have ended the tour unbeaten. To-day they proved thorough superiority over the New South Wales representative fifteen by 28 to 10. Mackay (2), Diederich and Williams scored tries and Bush converted four. Mackay and Bush kicked field goals. For New South Wales Towers scored two tries aud Ross converted them. New Zealand led by 19 to nil at halftime, after which they were never in danger. New South. Wales fielded a scratch team which was completed at the last moment. They missed a leader owin" to Malcolm’s absence. Nevertheless file claims of several potential players for the New Zealand tour suffered through indifferent displays, the match being regarded by the selectors as a try-out. Bush outshone Ross in kicking, tackling and general resource. The real reason of the New Zealanders’ success was the mastery of the five-eighths, McKechnie and Ewart. The forwards, losing the scrums and barely sharing the fine-outs, proved vastly better opportunists, particularly Diederich, King and Hodge. Mackay’s display was superlative. He was responsible for Diederich’s first try with a cross-kick. He cleared Ross’ dive for the next try and then kicked a field goal approaching half-time. Towerg'experimented with the drop-out on Kennedy’s wing. Mackay fielded, the ball and, rolling with it, outwitted Kennedy and then cantered across to score. The New South Wales backs were re-arranged in the second half, during which the New Zealanders were unable to penetrate till Ross, under pressure, instead of finding the line tried to punt over Diederich, who fielded the ball and passed in to Williams, who scored a try. The teams were:—

New Zealand. —Bush, Mackay, Ruru, Williams, McKechnie, Ewart, Garter, Stepl mson-Wright, McCurdy, Hodge, Dixon, Perkins, Peacock, Diederich, King. New South Wales. —Rose, Marks, Towers, Newton, Kennedy, McCauley, Winton, Parker, Moore, Joyce, Money, Judd, Love, McCafferty, Hooker.
