Rain continues to spoil county cricket matches. Kent and Gloucester compiled fair scores but the batting was not remunerative in most matches. Shepherd made 167 not opt for Surrey. Results are. — Lancashire beat Middlesex. —Lancashire in the first innings made 169 (Peebles took four wickets for 57), and in the second 200. Middlesex in the first innings made 158 (Lee 88; Hodgson took four wickets for 47), and in the second 148 (R. Tyldesley took six wickets for 55). Lancashire won by 63 runs. Surrey .beat Essex.—Surrey in the first innings made 285 (Shepherd not out 167). Essex in the first innings made 227 (Gower took five wickets for 50). Surrey won on the first innings. Northamptonshire beat Glamorganshire. —Glamorgan in the first innings made 114 (Ji'PP took five , wickets for 54), and in the.second 136. Northants in the first innings made 190 (Bakewell 113; Mercer took five wickets for 57 and Ryan five for 63), and in the second lost five wickets for 81. Northants won by five wickets. Derbyshire beat Nottinghamshire.-— Nottingham in the first innings made 146 (Townsend took six wickets for 59), Derby in the first innings lost two wickets for 108 (Storer not out So). Derby won on the first innings. Hampshire v. Warwickshire.—Hampshire in the first innings made 305 (Mead 93). Warwick in the first innings lost five wickets for 195. The match was drawn. Yorkshire v. Sussex—The match was drawn. Kent beat Leicestershire.—Kent in the first innings lost five wickets for 300 and declared (Woolley 89). Leicester in the first innings made 14S (Freeman took five wickets for 68 and Marriott five for 43), and followed on, making 133 (Freeman took five wickets for 53). Kent won by an innings and 19 runs. Gloucestershire beat WorcestershireWorcester in thb’first innings made 103 (Parker took five wickets for 44),-and in the second 79 (Parker took five wickets for 39). Gloucester in the first innings lost five wickets for 253 and declared 0 (Hammond 100, Neale 96). Gloucester won by an innings and 70 runs.
