PRESBYTERIANS’ NEED OF FUNDS.

GRANT VOTED FOR lONA COLLEGE.

Wellington, Last Night.

At the sitting of the Presbyterian General Assembly to-day Mr. A. D. Thomson brought in the report of the committee appointed to consider what help might be given to assist in the repairs to lona College. It was agreed that from the church relief fund the sum of £lOOO be granted towards the repairs. Mr. Thomson stated that the. total damage to church property was in_ the vicinity of £40,000, of which £25,000 was found in one congregation. The sum raised up to the present by church subscriptions was £6500/ out of which £4500 had already been paid. The committee recommended that a further appeal to congregations be made through the columns of the “Outlook.”

Mr. Thomson pointed out that the possibility of receiving any assistance from the Rehabilitation Commission was very remote, and that the burden would fall upon the Church. The report was adopted.
