RELIEF LOAN SUGGESTED

MR. W. J. POLSON’S PROPOSAL.

APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEES.

By yelograph-—Press Association.

Hatniltoh, Last Night.

That the Government should immediately raise a loan on the London market to adequately cover earthquake relief was suggested by Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., president of . the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, when speaking at a big meeting of farmers at Matamata to-day. It' was, he said, impossible to ritate what sum would be needed, but he thought a committee of trustees should be selected from prominent men in Hawke’s Bay, with a Government representation, to go into the matter. The trustees should have the right to call in harbour and other engineers, town planners and financiers to arrive at a plan .and direct the proper expenditure. of the money. A motion accordingly was carried unanimously.
