DEAD HEAT IN WHAREROA

CASHIER CATCHES LLANDUDNO. Four horses were almost in line when the post wap reached in the Whareroa Handicap and the judge was unable to separate the fast-finishing Cashier from Llandudno, with Kawhakina and Paiko a neck and a hegd away. Cashier ( £334) and Llandudno ( £242) were the only ones seriously fancied. From a straggling start Cashier, Llandudno, Roiipghe and Belle Star were first to show out, but Calamine and Bo-noo-ri© had taken up the running at the six furlongs from Llandudno. Paiko, Orozone. and Caphier. Five furlongs from home Calamine and Bonogne were out' foqr lengths ahead of Llandudno, Paiko, Monspgne and Cashier, but as they canie into the straight Bonogne had a slight advantage over Calamine, with Llandudno, Kawhakina (on the out- • side), Belle Star, Paiko and Cashier next. I Cashier tried to go on the outside, but | was blocked and came back on to the rails. Kawhakina, Llandqdno and Pajko were in line, at the distance, but Llandudno was doing best until Cashier secured an the rails and got up on the post to dead-heat with the topweight. There was very little between Kawhakina and Paiko, and Calamine, Bonogne and Belle Star followed. Llandudno ran a great race udder his big weight, blit Cashier would have beaten him in ariqther stride. Cashier apepared to be the unlucky horse in the race. When he began his run at the bottom of the straight he was denied an opening and lost a couple of lengths in pulling back to the rails. He shouli make amends next time out. Kawhakina was giving the leaders a dozen lengths half a mile from home, and was rushed up on the bend. Paiko ran his best race for some, time, but the others were well beaten.
