ALLEGED THEFT OF COAT

MAN REMANDED FOR A WEEK. Theft at New Plymouth of an overcoat valued at £4 10s„ the property of gn unknown person, was alleged against Patrick Ryan in the Police Court yesterday. He was unknown to the police in New Plymouth, said Sergeant McGregor, He was arrested the ■previous evening, when he was seen disappearing into a doorway. The sergeant asked for a remand for a week. “Any objection to a remand?” asked the clerk. ' “Well, I’m not guilty at all,’ replied Ryan, in an Irish brogue. He wanted to know why the matter could not be dealt with right away. The sergeant said they could not go on then. The police expected to find the owner of the coat. The court remanded the man for a week.
