DR. D. DENNY BROWN’S DEGREE.

IN CHARGE OF LARGE HOSPITAL.

Dr. Derek Denny Brown, the eon of Mr. and Mrs. C. Denny Brown, New Plymouth, has been admitted as a member of the Royal College of Physicians, according to cabled advice received by his parents yesterday. . One of the most distinguished scholars of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, Dr. Denny Brown won a Senior National Scholarship and then a Taranaki Scholarship at the’school in 1816. He left to study medicine at Otago University, taking his .medical degree five years later. After taking his degree he specialised for a year at Otago University, acting as demonstrator in anatomy. ’ From Otago he went to England, where he was awarded a Beit Scholarship for his researches in anatomy in New Zealand,, entitling him to three years’ research work at Oxford. At Oxford, where he specialised in research on the brain and spine, Dr. Denny Brown won the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. After leaving Oxford Dr. Denny Brown was appointed junior physician at the National Hospital, Queen’s Square, London, the hospital for brain, nerve and spine diseases. Next year he was made senior physician at the National Hospital." Last year he was appointed visiting neurologist at the Acton Park Hospital, London, and this year, at the age of 29, he was appointed resident medical officer or superintendent of the National Hospital in London.
