In order to take advantage of the rain that is falling periodically the gates in the diversion tunnel under the Mangamahoe dam at Mangorei are to be closed, * or at any rate partially closed, immediately. The lake above the dam will, ot courge, begin to form at once, and it is ■ proposed to let the water rise at least level of the present bridge across Mangamahoe stream while the finishtouches are being bestowed to the top ot the dam and embankments,
