TARANAKI RIFLE ASSOCIATION

EASTER MEETING PROGRAMME. The executive of ‘the Taranaki Rifle Association last night decided to hold the annual championship meeting of the association on April 4 and 6, Easter Saturday and Monday. Those present were Messrs. F. Hartnell, (president), H. McGahey, J. G. Turnbull, S. Higgs, J. Robinson, F. C. Hogg, O. P. George, G. H. Taylor (New Plymouth Club), G. Smith (Kaponga Club), A. G. Robertson (Hawera Club) and E. Armitage (secretary). Ari approximate balance-sheet for the year ending March, 1931, showed a credit of £45 Us, as against £26 Ils lOd at the end of the previous year. It was hoped, said the president, in view of the state of the balance-sheet, to increase the prize money and possibly modify the programme of matches. At the last meeting greater prize money ■would have been offered if it had been known.the meeting would be as successful as.it was. A proposal to include an extra long range match in the programme was vetoed by. the members, who decided that the’ matches and the ranges be the same as’last year —one match at each of the ranges 300 yards, 500 yards, 800 yards, 9QO yards, two matches at COO yards, a teams’ match at 300, 500 and 600 yards, arid a service match at 300 yards, with the addition of two optional aggregates over the first three and the second three matches. It was decided to increase the amount of the prize list devoted to each of the first six matches from £l7 15s to £2O, and the number of prizes in a match by five. The aggregate prize list is to be increased by three prizes of a total value of £2 10s. The conditions of ammunition were altered to include the use of both cordite, and nitro-cellulose. The definition of a tyro shot was altered to that of a rifleman who had not won a prize of more than £1 at any rifle association meeting. ./ The range is to be made available for competitors on.the afternoon prior to the meeting, /when sweepstake matches may be arranged. The secretary has received a donation of £1 to the funds from President G. R. Smith, Kaponga Club.
