BUTTER-FAT INCREASES 13001 b. PASTURE GROWTH ABUNDANT. The Waimate West Demonstration Farm Committee met yesterday, _there being present Mees re. J. M. Smith (chairman), T. A. Bridge, E. ,J. Betts, H. H. Buxton, E. Long, J. S. McKay, and J. W. Palmer (secretary). Following the dry spell; about the beginning of; the year the warm rains had promoted a good growth-of pastures, particularly in white clover, which was very prevalent, it was reported. Feed, was fairly plentiful. The second cut of lucerne had been put into the silo. This lot had- been put in with the mast and boom ■which worked very .satisfactorily-with f tfie double door on the roof. An area of 29 acres, had been eaved as ensilage. > Paddocks 4 and 4a, an area of 12 acres, had been cut for hay and stacked on December 20. The crop had been very heavy and two stacks were made, one in each paddock. The soft , tqrnips' had been re-sown on December 17 and a good strike ob-Fifty-six cows were being milked, the milk yesterday amounting to 1260 lb. The test was 4.4 and. the fat for November was 19601 b., bringing the total for the .season to 76331 b. This was 13121 b. ahead of last season and 1731 b. ahead of the same month last season. There were 18 weancr pigs which were, doing well. The chairman stated the elevator had not been very satisfactory. It was slower than a boom and mast .and was not a saving in labour as the men were required for a longer period. The belt of the elevator would- frequently slip and straw would block the: pulleys. The contrivance had been bought by instruction of the Department of Agriculture and the cost had come out: of the subsidy. ■ The question of purchase was refer-, red to Mr. J. W.
