UNEMPLOYED IN FRANCE

HALF-MILLION NEED WORK / INFLATION BEING PRACTISED THE COST OF LIVING RISING ‘TIME COME TO TELL TRUTH’ By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyrizht. Rec. 11.35 p.m. London, Jan. 13. “The time has come to tell the truth in regard to unemployment in France,” says Mr. Greenwall, Paris correspondent of the Daily Express. “The official statement is that there are 12,000 Unemployed, but there are really 250,000 and another quarter million are on short time. France has held back the figures as long as possible because the dole is unknown; unemployed relief is a matter for the district councils.” The correspondent hints that, France may be the first country since the war io issue gold currency. Influential people are urging this to relieve the gold congestion, despite which France is practising inflation on an extensive scale. The note issue has reached staggering proportions with the result that the cost of living is rising and unemployment is soaring.
