PROBABLY FAINTED IN AIR
HUNDREDS WATCH TRAGEDY
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night.
An aeroplape fatality occurred at Mangere to-night when a Moth machine owned by the Auckland Aero Club crashed from' 2500 feet and burst into flames. Pilot Cyril Olsen, aged 23, and single, who lives at Royal Oak, was killed.
Hundreds of horror-stricken spectators witnessed the tragedy and rushed to the field in which the aeroplane crashed, but the pilot was then dead and the intense heat of the burning wings and fuselage prevented those .who hastened to the scene from getting closer ''han 20 feet from the blazing inferno.
Several experienced pilots stated tonight that they thought the pilot fainted 0 in mid-air. This view is borne outby the fact that the engine was running full-out" when the machine struck the ground. Before the fatal flight the machine was tested and found in good order.
