Lord Willingdon is regarded as being specially- fitted, for the heavy responsibilities of Viceroy of India by . reason of his ten years’ experience in that Empire, i and the belief is expressed by, the Princes and delegates from British India that, the liberal spirit in which he worked the Montagu reforms as provincial Governor gives an assurance that he will be sympathetic towards Indian advances to the legitimate goal. , ' \\ ;■ ‘ ' r ' 1 . Lord Willingdon, who is €4 years old, has held the Canadian Governor-General-’, ship since 1926. He had previously been Governor of Bombay'for five years and of Madras jfor six years. Before being raised to' the peerage he was a Liberal member of Parliament from 1900.
