ARREST AFTER FOUR YEARS
MAN FINED FOR THEFT.
“LEADING HONEST LIFE)”
An offence committed in 1926 was admitted in the Police Court at Wellington before Mr. E. Page, S.M., by Sydney Stephen Holden, aged 29, ( who pleaded guilty to the theft of a magneto valued at £lO. '
Sub-Inspector Ward said that ’ foui; years ago, while working for a carrier at Grey town, Holden stole a magneto frfom a lorry, the property of his employer. He sold the magneto to a sec-ond-hand dealer for 30s. The offence was reported to the police some time later, and inquiries were made in various parts of the Dominion for, the accused, who was arrested in Wellington last evening. Holden had not been before the court previously for dishonesty. The magistrate: When was the warrant issued for his arrest?
Sub-Inspector ward: It was issued on May 14, 1927.
“I have been leading an honest and straight life since the offence was committed,” said the accused, when askedif he had anything to say. He added that he was a married man and had settled down.
A fine of £lO, in default one month’s imprisonment, was' imposed.
