“FINE LOT OF CALVES”
NORTH CHAMPIONS SELECTED A. . GATHERING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. KEEN ENTHUSIASM- MANIFESTED. ’• The - -selection of champion calves from the winners of the groups comprising the North. Taranaki Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs took place at the Waiwakaiho showgrounds, New Plymouth, yesterday. The attendance of parents and friends was estimated, at over 25d and the keenest interest was showii in the judging., J . The exceptionally fine quality of the stock paraded ■ was the theme of & great deal of enthusiastic comment from the judges arid onlookers.' Two Of the judges, Messrs. A. E. Washer and W. K, Morris, expressed the opinion that the calves wefe the finest they hid seen. The quality, they said, was' improving year by year even as the ' movement was growing. Both these men have been connected with the boys’ and girls’ club since its inception. Mr. J. M. Smith, of the Agricultural. The judges for dairy type in. the grade section were Messrs. R. J. Linn, W. K. Morris,. W. F. Olson, A. J. Luxton and A.. E. Washer. Those for dairy condition in the same section were Messrs. W. Honeyfield, J. Whitehead, T. Wilson, F. W. Sutton and J. F. Phillips. The .pedigree class judges were; Jerseys, Mr. E. Griffiths; Ayrshires, Mr. W. Hall; Friesians, Air. W. K.- Morris. The same judges for condition in the grade section judged the pedigrees on their condition. Luncheon and afternoon tea were provided at the grounds for the and the officials by a committee comprising Mcsdame's A. E. Washer, A. T. Moore, R. G. Ridlihg, W. K. Morris, D. McKay, A. H. Palmer,,J. Hal, M. Goldsbury, J. N. Parker and F. W. Sutton. Results are;—! GRADE SECTION. Jersey-Ayrshires, Condition. —T. Shorthorn-Friesians. Condition.—Jean Tubbutt (Egmont Village) champion; Roy Hicks (Tikorangi) 2, Alfred O’Byrne (Egmont lage) 3.
