Regulations to be gazetted soon hav® been made under the Unemployment Act wholly exempting from payment ot tn© levy every person who, having served ih the' war of 1914-1919 as a member of any of his Majesty’s’ naval, military or. air forces raised in any part of the British Dominions is for the time being in receipt of a pension granted by the Government in respect of his total disablement' through such service, and exempting to the extent specified the following persons and classes of persons:-— (1) Every person who on the due date of such quarterly instalment is 65,years of age or over,' and whose income from, all sources during three months immediately preceding such date has not exceeded an average of £2 a week, and who has not obtained the consent of th© Unemployment Board to his exclusion, providing that any.person seeking the consent of the board to such exclusion, slfall make application in writing to the board, setting out. the grounds thereof; provided also that the consent of the board may at any time be withdrawn after reasonable notice to th© person . affected: ■ and that the person affected may at any time by notice in writing to the board, elect, notwithstanding any such consent, to claim the benefit of the exemption. (2) Every person who on the due date of the quarterly instalment and for at least the whole of the month on the first day of which the instalment is due, is through any physical or mental disability unable regularly to follow any occupation or calling for a livelihood and. whose income from all. sources, during the three months immediately preceding tliQodue date has not exceeded the average of £2 a week. -, _ (3) Every person who is for' the time being a member of a religious body whose rules-forbid the possession by its members of any personal property except clothing and similar \ personal effects. • ... , . ■ (4) Every person who on the due date of the quarterly instalment and during the whole of the month immediately preceding the due date has been, registered as unemployed, at the office of the Department of Labour and hab not re- v eeived any income. (5) Every person in respect of ,whoin the Unemployment Board is satisfied by a resolution passed within six weeks prior to the due date of such quarterly instalment that by reason of sickness or poverty it would produce undue hardship upon such person or his dependants to require him .to'pay the instalment.
