LONG TRIP WITH CANOE
AUCKLAND TO WAJNGANUI. YOUNG MAN’S EXPERIENCE. An adventurous journey from Auckland to Wanganui with a canoe has been completed by a man, Mr. Stanley Rose, who arrived at Wanganui on Monday. Most of the distance was covered in thecanoe, making use of rives and lakes, but he had to pull his ' craft, which was mounted on /wheels, over the intervening land. t Mr. Rose left Auckland ten weeks ago and paddled down the Waitemata Harbour to the Tamaki River, thence to the Manukau Harbour, going direct .‘to . Waiuku. A • walk of a mile and ahalf took him to the Otau Channel, •.which leads into the Waikato River. Proceeding to Cambridge, he covered ■S7 miles on fo.ot, pulling his canoe behipd. .him uptilhe at Taupo. He' for 50 miles along the lake to , Tokaanu. He traversed the Tongariro River 'for a- feiy 'miles and made ’ his way acrosa'National Park to Taumq.runui. The journey the Wanganui River.'took a week. During the ten weeks of his travels he was °under cover only five nights.
