LABOUR MEMER' SUSPENDED.
A recent clash in the. Queensland Legislative Assembly between-members of the Labour Opposition and the chairman of committees, Mr. R. Roberts; resulted in the naming of Mr. F. W.-Biil-cock, Labour member for Barcoo. ■ The incident had its origin in,the in; Production by the Minister' of Lands, Mr. Deacon, of a Bill to' amend the Tully sugar area land regulations to make it possible for settlers. in the sugar-growing - district of Tully, North Queensland, to convert perpetual leases .into freehold/' Replying to arguments, of the Opposition that ■ the public estate should not be dissipated,..members of the Government said that Labour politicians showed little sincerity when • they almost invariably bought freehold themselves instead of taking-up perpetuaL leases. ; Mr; E. A., Atherton said that Mr. Theodore was the leader of the Queensland Government at. the- time the Tully mill was built. He bought freehold at Tully despite the fact that he and his colleagues advocated leasehold. Members of the Opposition accused the chairman of committees of partiality in his rulings. The climax of the incident was when. Mr. Bulcock refused unreservedly to. withdraw ah assertion that the, chairman had aided and abetted. the Minister for Mines. Mr. Bulcock shouted: “When I can respect your rulings I will withdraw.” The chairman named Mr. Bulcock. who,.on a division,, w: s suspended for the remainder of the ..sitting. / .
