LICENSING COMMITTEE

TRANSFER OF HOTELS. The quarterly meeting of the Egmont Licensing Committee was held at’ Elthani yesterday. Present were Mr. R. W. Tate, S.M. (chairman), Messrs. C. E. Rowe. T. C. Stauners,’ M. O’Brien and N. C. Innes.. J The application of Walter Francis Swift, Manaia, for a transfer of the license of the Waimate Hotel to Percy Martin Havill was granted. The application of Annie Doogan, Opunake, for a transfer of the license of the Club to William Henry PaiKer was granted. Sergeant McGregor represented the police, no objection being made to the transfers. , The chairman said the committee had been through the police reports on rhe various hotels in the district and' was pleased to fina that the conduct of the hotels was generally satisfactory. INJURED IN MOTOR SMASH. STRATFORD MAN . IN HOSPITAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Te Kuiti; Last Night. ' Colin G. Grubb, an employee of the National Bank at Stratford, who is on holiday prior to being transferred to Wellington, was seriously injured when his motor cycle collided with a car driven by H. Dinsdale, Te Kuiti. The mishap occurred at Hangatiki, on the main road, this afternoon. The injured man is now in hospital at Te Kuiti suffering from a fractured leg and numerous abrasions to the body. Mr. N. H. Moss, a brother-in-law, last night received advice that Mr. Grubb was much more comfortable. ENSILAGE-MAKING EXPLAINED. - •MR. j: m. smith at eltham. An address on the making-of ensilage was delivered at Elthani on Monday by Mr. J. M. Smith, of the Department of Agriculture. The lecture, which was illustrated by lantern slides, was given under the auspices of the Elthani branch of ' the Farmers’ Union, Mr. J. Cocker presiding. The various points connected with en-silage-making were fully explained by the speaker on the lines of his previous addresses and at the conclusion he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

ELTHAM SCOUT WORK. The/monthly meeting of the Eltham Scout, Committee was held on Monday evening, Mr; I. J. Bridger presiding. Scoutmaster Blackman ? reported that parades had been very well .attended during, the month. Four patrols of scouts had competed at Hawera and obtained four first prizes. The cubs obtained one first prize. The cubs .had increased since last report by five members, making-25 on the cub roll.. 'As many Eltham .scouts and cubs as possible will attend the first South Taranaki divisional Girl Guides rally at, the showgrounds; Hawera, on December 13. JThe secretary of the Wanganui Citizens Jamboree Committee, wrote concerning the west coast jamboree, which will coni-, mehce in Wanganui on December 27. It was decided-to reply that in view of the projected visit by the troop to Wellington to meet Lord Baden Powell it would not be possible to be represented at the jamboree. / ./■_// An invitation is to be issued to the Stratford scouts to visit Eltham on December 12; when a combined social even-' iiig will be given- by the Eltham committee and demonstrations arranged for scouts and cubs. Mr. Horner, South Taranaki Scout Commissioner, will be invited to attend. •. , z GENERAL. „ Over 200 men paid instalments of the unemployment levy to the Stratford post office during yesterday and Monday. A fair proportion paid for a year in advance. About £3O less than last year was taken in cash at the luncheon rooms at the Stratford show last week. When the rooms are credited with the value of the complimentary luncheon tickets issued the total will be increased materially." Anticipating that the ’equirements of the rooms would not be as great as usual the chairman, Mr. J. W. Crowe, cancelled the orders of s.une of the goods and as all left-oyer goods were sold nothing was lost from that cause. , An increase in the number of. births and marriages and a decrease in deaths are shown by the statistics for Stratford for the past month as compared with the figures for November, 1929. Details are: Births 24 (17), deaChs 5 (7), marriages 0 (4). ’ / ‘ The' four Avon rinks to play a friendly game against Stratford rinks on the Avon bowling green to-morrow are:—Soundy, Pennington, Moss, Power; T.
