FATAL SPEEDWAY CRASH
CHRISTCHURCH RIDER DIES. STRUCK HIS HEAD ON A POST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Nov. 24. George M. Chambers, who was injured while broadsiding at the Monica Park speedway on Saturday, died in hospital last night from a severe wound in the head caused by striking a post. The accident occurred when Chambers was travelling at nearly 40 miles an hour. He attempted to pass C. Kennedy in the B grade handicap.
AA'itnesses state that Chambers hit an iron post with his head. He was knocked unconscious immediately and was carried along with his head lying over the side of the machine for some distance. His head was battered on the wire and the other posts while the machine continued on its course. Then the machine seemed to get further out into the track and subsequently crashed.
1 Chambers’ crash helmet, built up of ccrk layers specially prepared, was split and he suffered a deep gash on the forehead.
