IRISH SWEEPSTAKE PRIZE
. FORTUNE OF BELFAST MEN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Nov. 23. A Belfast civil servant who, being unable to sell his last book of tickets, shared it with a local barman, drew the first prize, £204,764, in the Irish sweepstake but, as he had sold a half ticket for £3500, their net win was £102,382. The newspapers point out that the Irish sweepstake cost almost as much in expenses as the £131,724 it provided for the Irish hospitals. Correspondence and leader writers are increasingly insisting on the sanctioning of sweepstakes in Britain in aid of hospitals.
