The public have paid good money at show time to seek freak animals of appearance less strange than that of a horse arrested recently by the borough poundkeeper, says the Poverty Bay Herald. The freakish characteristic of this animal is purely temporary, one would imagine, for it consists of a coat of hair up to 6in. in length, which it is rapidly casting for the summer. Standing in, the breeze, it presents a strange spectacle, . with its luxuriant coat waving, and its journey io the pound was the occasion for much merriment among those who witnessed it's passage through the. streets.
Typically American but very persuasive, says the Auckland Star, is a letter received by a New Zealand bookseller. To show you we are good sports, just deduct 25 cents from what you owe us, buy yourself a cigar, and have a smoke on us while .you write us a . postal moncy-oidei. Attach your remittance to this letter so that "the bookkeeper will give you your cigar allowance. IV e arc tuned in and trust you will broadcast us a cheek at once.
