Blustering wind and rain at Hawera last night rendered conditions impossible regarding attendance at the showgrounds for the first night of the show. Most of the sideshow people did not attempt to open their places of amusement, which was just as well in view of the fact that the temporary lighting system failed to function after about a quarter of an hour, leaving the grounds in darkness. A lecture that was to have been delivered at the Egmont A. and P. Association’s rooms by Mr. A. L. Thompson (Wanganui) on the management and feeding of farm animals was not given owing to the very poor attendance. SOUTH TARANAKI TENNIS. TEAMS FOR SATURDAY.
