COMMERCIALISM DEPRECATED,
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last NightThe use of the name “Plunket” in commercial advertising was denounced at the, biennial conference of the Royal Society for the Health of. Women and Children, which opened to-day. Various remits of considerable importance will be discussed at the conference, which- will continue during the week, 150 delegates attending. The following remit from the central council was adopted; That branches be asked to do everything in their power tc maintain the broad policy of the society by endeavouring to prevent the use of its name directly or indirectly for commercial purposes or as an advertising medium. The question arose because some difference resulted when one branch had received an offer from a firm t Q JPW percentage of a ■week’s takings tp the society in return for leave to use the society’s name in an advertisement. Sir Truby King spoke strongly against such a practice. After discussion it was decided tp set up a committee to draft guiding lines on the matter. Sir Truby King, Mr. J. A. Young, Sirs. Parkes (Auckland.! and Mrs. Gilmour. (Lyttelton) were appointed the committee.
