There will be three competitions open to the public, as folr,; lows: —■ j. ■' , ORIGINAL SHORT, STORIES. f \ ' First Prize £33 * < Second Prize £2 a 0 In addition one guinea will be paid for each short story that is published apart from the prize-winning contributions. Stories should not be more than 2500 words in length, or about two and a-half columns of the Daily News. ' ; • TARANAKI PICTURES. ' A prize of £1 Is is offered for the ■best photograph in each of the three ■ < following classes (Taranaki scenes only):—.' , 1. Portrait study. 2. Animal study. , '. 3. Landscape, seascape or river / , scene. In addition a reproduction fee. of 7s 6d will be paid for any photograph, not a winner in any of the above, classes, which is accepted for publican tion. ; CARTOON. A prize of £1 Is is offered for the ■best original cartoon with a Taranaki application, the editor to reserve the ;' right not to accept any contribution in this class if in his opinion, none is worthy of publication. The (decision of the editor in all com- /. petitions shall be final. M.s.s. should if possible be typewritten and entries should be forwarded to the Editor, , Taranaki Daily News, Box 119, New Plymouth. The package should be flat and. clearly marked “Christmas Competition.” The last folio of MSS should ■bear the name aud address of the competitor. Stamps must be enclosed if the competitor desires the return of MSS, photographs or cartoons. Entries close on Saturday, November 29. ' : .
