Carr, who has mad< a good recovery from his illness, re sumed <his duties. The chairman, Mr J. Garcia, on behalf of the executive extended him a hearty welcome. Mr Garcia also spoke in eulogistic terml of the services rendered by the actingsecretary, Mr. P. E. Stainton, who had voluntarily stepped into the breach and had carried through two tournaments „ without a hitch. On behalf of ..the committee he made Mr. Stainton ,a pre* sentation. ' ■ . , x It was unanimously decided to api point- Mr. Stain ton to a vacancy on the executive. The New Plymouth High School will be given all possible assistance in connection with its boxing championships, which are to be decided at the Coronation Hall at the end of the month. Mr. C. L. Mullaney, Inglewood, was recommended as referee. . ', . There were present at the Messrs Garcia, Stainton, C. E. Roebuck* W. Roebuck, A. F. Aldie, R. Karvey g A. Clarke, B. Hume, V. S. Pruden, J, Horlor And Carr (honorary secretary)* LECKIE TQ FIGHT EDWARDS | CHAMPION AT NEW PLYMOUTH.» New Zealand is fortunate in possessing two featherweight boxers who have shown themselves capable of more than holding their own with the best in Australia and America. They are Johnny ■- Leckie, New Zealand champion, and Its Waitara understudy, Tommy Donovan, who has met the champion for 1 a loss and a draw, but is confident of turning the tables and bringing the title to Taranaki when the pair meet at the end of the month in Napier. Leckie created a wonderful impress sion on his first appearance in. the NewPlymouth ring against! Donovan, his clean hitting and speed in the ring, and his unassuming manner out of it, making a direct appeal. Many hav© expressed the hope that they would soon ■be given another opportunity of seeing the Napier man in action in New, Plymouth and that is to be realised on November 15 when he will fight Llew Edwards, the Victorian punishing boxerfighter. The Taranaki Association has been negotiating for some time to bring Edwards to New Zealand, and against intense competition by several of. the major associations of New Zealand, which also recognised that Edwards, with his fellow J Statesman Bobby Blay, ar© in a class by themselves in th© Commonwealth, succeeded recently in obtaining his signature to a contract. The Victorian arrived in the Dominion on Monday. For convenience of training he is remaining in Wellington until ■ early next week. He will arrive at New Plymouth in Wednesday.Tn the top flight of Australian feathers, classed as the fastest at his weight at th© present time, Edwards has seen (Leckie in action on th© other flide, and knowing that in both the champion and Donovan he will be encountering stiff opposition, he is leaving nothing to chance. He has a very fine reputation to maintain. The bout should prove a great draw as it is th© first time for nearly two years that th® public has had an opportunity of seeing two outside boys in the New Ply* mouth ring. As both men will b© fighting Tommy Donovan within th® next four weeks—Leckie at Napier for the title and Edwards at New Plymouth —opportunity will 'no doubt be taken by enthusiasts to size up Tommy’s chances. Mr, R. Meale, Auckland, jvill (be referee. _ . For the preliminaries arrangements t have been completed to bring over team, of Hawke’s Bay boxers to fey out the pick of Taranaki’s amateurs
