SHIELD BOWLING MATCHES

COMPETITIONS BEGIN TO-DAY. The Masters shield inter-club bowling competition played throughout North Taranaki will begin to-day if the weather is suitable. Rain during the week will no doubt tend to make the greens heavy, but the New Plymouth greens are -bearing an exceptionally fine sole of grass this season and should play well.

The draw for to-day’s games is:—■ Section A. • West End ' A v. Fitzroy B, at Fitzroy. Awakino and Fire Brigade v. New Plymouth A, at Awakino and Fire Brigade.’ ■' Waitara a bye. (Section B. Fitzroy v. New Plymouth B, at New Plymouth. / Vogeltown v. Paritutu, at Vogeltown. West End B a bye. A friendly match will be played between Waitara and West Eiyl B, at West End. PARITUTU CLUB’S COMPETITIONS. The Paritutu Bowling Club committee met in New Plymouth on Thursday evening. Mr. W. W. Thomson presided. The club decided to run the single championship on the two-life system and a junior championship for first and sec-end-year players. A pairs competition of 2'l heads is to be held, the section committee to approve of a substitute in case of the default of ‘any player. A handicap single championship is to be held for a trophy, handicaps to be made by the selectors.
